Twice the Silver. Four Times the Rarity.
A Piedfort is a double-thickness coin struck on a specially prepared blank weighing exactly twice that of its standard counterpart. The Royal Mint has reserved the Piedfort format for its most significant commemorative issues — and for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II, it may be the most fitting expression of the two.
One Hundred Beads. One Hundred Years.
Heraldic artist Timothy Noad embedded a detail in this design that the standard version does not carry: 100 beads frame the reverse, one for each year of the centenary being marked. It is the kind of considered, layered symbolism that defines Noad's work — and the kind of detail that rewards those who look closely.
The plain incuse edge carries the inscription: A LIFE WELL LIVED, A PROMISE WITH DESTINY KEPT.
The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III, sculpted by Martin Jennings.
Sterling Silver. Proof Finish. Double Weight.
Struck in 925 sterling silver and finished to Proof standard, the Piedfort carries 56.56 grams of silver — double the weight of the standard issue — with the same mirror-bright fields and frosted relief that define the Royal Mint's finest production. At 38.61mm, it shares the crown diameter but carries a depth and heft that immediately distinguishes it from the standard coin.
