Gold Sets
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a Gold Eagle four-coin proof set?
A four-coin Gold Eagle proof set includes all four denominations โ 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz โ in proof finish with mirror-like fields and frosted cameo devices. Together they contain 1.85 troy ounces of gold. Certified sets in matching PF70 grades are the gold standard for collectors.
Are matched gold coin sets more valuable than the individual coins?
Yes. Complete sets with matching grades, labels, and designations command premiums over the sum of their individual coins because of the difficulty in assembly. A perfectly matched four-coin PF70 set with identical First Day of Issue labels tells a cohesive story that appeals to serious collectors.
Does the U.S. Mint limit gold proof set production?
Yes. Gold Eagle proof sets have mintage limits set by the U.S. Mint, and popular years sell out quickly. Once the Mint's allocation is gone, the only way to acquire a set is on the secondary market โ where certified sets in perfect grades often trade at significant premiums over original issue price.
How should I store a gold coin set for long-term preservation?
Each coin in our certified sets arrives in its NGC or PCGS holder, which provides archival-quality protection. Store them in a home safe, bank deposit box, or secure vault. Never remove coins from certified holders โ this destroys the grade certification and can significantly diminish value.
